    Cypress Vine Red (Ipomoea quamoclit)

    One of my favorite flowers in the world, Cypress Vine Red is a stunning plant that has beautiful blooms and foliage. It produces tons of bright red, trumpet shaped flowers from mid-summer all the way to season's end. They will not stop producing until frost gets them. A big attraction for humming birds and butterflies, it's a great vine for growing on arbors, banisters or any decorative situation. Will grow well in containers too. These will reseed, so plant them some place where you wouldn't mind them coming back the following year. It's white sister is just as stunning and effective. Happy Bird watching.

    If you are love growing fun and tasty varieties, Curly Kaley tomato would definitely be one to try. This variety is perfect for containers or patio growing.  Plants are about 15-20 inches tall. Very unique plants look like they have the stick gene with very thick, firm trunks and narrow width. They produce plenty, slightly elongated, red cherry tomatoes. These are very tasty and firm to the touch. This can be placed in the micro-dwarf or dwarf categories. Fruits are fleshy treats, have a low seed count, and they are sweet and tangy. Perfect salad and snacking tomato. Plants have a indeterminate habit and continue producing all season long. Best grown in a 1-2 gallon container.

    Cuostralee may not often be listed as a great sauce tomato but it is. That may mostly be due to the fact that it's such an excellent beefsteak. Still on my top rated list, Cuostralee tomato will rock your world no matter how you decide to use it. Huge, weighty fruits can reach 1.5 pounds . Vines produce plenty of perfect, crack-free fruits. This is the classic "way back" tomato! Cuostrale is rich, balanced, sweeter, meaty, aromatic and much more. Everything about this tomato is all good! Make yourself a some really good tomato sandwiches and spaghetti sauce!

    85 Days. I am a huge tomato sauce maker and I love this tomato! It makes the most delicious deep brown, sweet sauce that is perfect on spaghetti. 3 to 4inch long, deep brown tomatoes, are late to ripen and early to the sauce-pan. They have few seeds and sweet flesh. Note: I have noticed that a few do get cracks, but it really doesn't matter because sauce is what I am after. They all go right in da pan!

  • Crankovic Yugoslavian tomato is mid-season, red variety that can be used as a main crop fruit. Shorter vines produce plenty of perfect, 6 ounce fruits that ripen after 75 days or so. Fruits are balanced and have good old time flavor. This is not a complexed or fancy tomato. it's just straight up, real tomato with great flavor. perfect slicer, for cooking, fresh eating!

    Crimson Zebra Tomato

    A prolific variety, Crimson Zebra tomato is desirable and pretty! 5 feet tall, regular leafed plants, produce 2-6 0unce fruits that are sweeter, mildly fruity and delivers an overall good tomato experience. Ours showed nice disease resistance after one small initial treatment. Plants produced all season long. Wonderful tomato aroma. A really nice cooking, snacking and canning variety!

    Creme Brûlée tomato is a great example of the qualities of most black tomatoes. It's one that I would recommend if someone to someone who has never tasted a dark variety. It's similar in taste to Grandma Oliver's Chocolate and Chyornyi Tarasenko. Most of all it has it's own delicious characteristics. Creme Brûlée is not a large fruit (perhaps 6-8 ounces) but it has large flavor.  5 foot tall plants begin to ripen fruits around 75 days after transplant. We had no disease issues with these in 2018. Plants produce plenty of pretty fruits. Cracking wasn't an issue for us with these. A great choice for any tomato garden! See it on YouTube

    Think salads and pickling. Creamsicle Grape tomato is excellent for salads with its mildly sweet and flavorful finish. 2 inch long fruits are subtly bi-colored and and pretty. This grape would also go well on a platter. Plants showed extreme disease resistance and were very prolific. Ours started ripening around 75 days from transplant and just produced hundreds of fruits all the way until frost killed them. A very reliable salad variety! Pickle them whole or sliced, they would work well in both applications.

    In 2018 one of our missions was to grow more varieties that were specific to certain applications. Cow's Tit tomato is one of them. If you are in search of varieties that will make great sauce and paste, this is one. I made some fantastic sauce with it! It also did excellently in fresh salsa and is equally tasty as a stand alone tomato. 2-3 inch elongated fruits are born on wispy leaved vines that produce prolifically! Ours started ripening around the 75th day after transplanting and kept up until late season. Also a great choice for canning, dehydrating and more!

    80 Days. Cour De Bue tomato is a desirable, nice sized oxheart, that will lighten up your garden. When they start ripening they are something to see! Prolific, wispy leaf vines produce plenty 5-10 ounce, pink fruits that are perfectly heart shaped and have a complete tomato taste. Oxhearts aren't usually acidic and Our De Blue isn't either! It's sweet, with great texture, not to forward tasting and perfect for sandwiches and sauces. you must try this one!

Hardy vines are thick, sturdy and need early staking.  Sauce ready fruits are also perfect for sandwiches and biting huge chunks out of the reddest ones, right off the vines. These are sweet with great aroma and old fashioned taste. Begin staking right after transplant! Couilles de Tareau tomato is a great beefsteak!

    Costoluto Genovese tomato is the larger sister of Costoluto Florentino. It is beautifully ribbed and shares many of the same characteristics as Fiorentino, except that it may be a bit sweeter in my opinion. Another great sauce tomato, Costoluto Genovese vines are 5 feet tall and produce a big quantity of ribbed fruits. Try drying some, the flavors intensify then! Market sales will excellent with these too!

    Costoluto Fiorentino Tomato

    75 Days. One of the best sauce makers that I have grown in 20 years Costoluto Fiorentino tomato regularly remains in our rotation. Deep red, ribbed tomatoes just scream for the sauce-pan. Don't be fooled though, Fiorentino also taste great. It's a great balance of sweet and tangy with great texture! side. Also works well as a garnishing, sandwich and drying tomato. Great for market vendors!

    Cosmos tomato is a fine antho variety that I attained from a friend who got them from a seed bank. These large-sized cherries are ideal for salads and snacking. The will also be great for garnish and canning while or halved. Productive plants start producing and ripening white early and never stop. Get your baskets ready because they never stop coming. Taste is mild, sweet and all-around good. This tomato goes a long way in avoiding the usual antho taste, so I like that a lot. Expect ripened fruits around 75 days from transplant and like I said, expect a lot!
  • 80 Days. Cosmonaut Volkov is the perfect all purpose slicer. it will literally be great in most applications. Hardy vines are prolific, producing plenty of red, 6 ounce fruits, that have a great, balanced and old time feel! Vines will produce plenty until frost.     Cosmic Eclipse tomato is an average to larger sized cherry variety.  It's also in the antho family. I wasn't sure what I would get when I grew these out, but I was game! Our vines produced prolifically and never really stopped until the weather got cooler at nights. Plants also showed good disease resistance, especially to early and late blight. Cosmic Eclipse is great for canning, salads, fresh eating, garnishing and so much more. It truly is an all purposed variety. Our market sales did well with these also.     Copper River Tomato

    Copper River is a beautiful bi-color tomato that is splashed with greens and purples. When sliced, there is noting like the color experience that it presents! Disease resistant vines produce a good amount of 6-10 ounce tomatoes that begin to ripen about 80 days after transplant. Fruits are rich with other complex flavors. A great selection for salsas, garnishing, sandwiches, drying and market sales.

    Copia tomato is a beautifully bi-colored fruit that will turn heads very time. When it comes to taste, it's also worth growing in any garden. For us, plants showed really good disease resistance, staying healthy to produce perhaps the biggest crop of any variety in on the farm in 2028. Fruits ripen to the most gorgeous yellow and red bi-colored conglomeration, with yellow being the dominant color. When sliced, heart-warming marblings will excite your taste buds. Vines can be tall but ours were around 5.5 feet in full sun. Copia is lightly fruity, sweeter, has a nice amount of juice and delicious. Perfect for slicing, sandwiches, garnish, cooking and more. Give these a try!
  • Common Purple Phlox Seeds

    The very first flower that ever drew me into flower gardening was Common Purple Phlox. Also known as Tall Garden Phlox or Phlox paniculate, this very attractive cultivar is not only beautiful, but vary hardy. They produce beautiful, big bunches of fragrant, deep pink blooms that last from June to August. Stalks can reach 3-4 feet tall depending on location. These love full sun but will flourish in part shade just as well. These are perfect for zones 4-8, but I have heard of instances where they have done well outside of these zones. Truly a wonderful, hardy addition, to your butterfly and humming bird garden.

    Coeur de Surpriz Tomato

    One of my biggest regrets in 2019 is that I didn't grow enough Coeur de Surpriz tomato plants. I grew out 4 plants and 3 of them were drowned in the flood waters in mid-June. When the remaining plant finally started ripening its fruits, I was amazed at how beautiful they were. Not wanting to eat many, in order to maximize my seed count, I tried a few. Then a few more, and more. Eventually I only saved fruits from half of the plant. These were sweet and fruity with a little tang. Very good little tomato! Bi-colored outside and out. Good choice for fresh eating, salads, garnish, dehydrating, fresh salsa, canning and more. Nice all purpose variety. Might I say again, very, very good!

    80 Days. If you like oxhearts as much as I do, then you may want to sample Coeur de Boeuf Jaune. This yellow oxheart is meaty, milder and sweet. it's a great tomato for those not wanting a acidic tomato. This beauty is a full flavored tomato that can reach 14-16 ounces and is on the milder side. You'll have the entire experience with this one! Coeur de Blue Jaune vines are skinny and have wispy leaves, they can reach 6 feet tall and have good disease resistance. Stake them well and harvest often. Great sauce, salsa and sandwich tomato! Great for market sales too.

    One of the first dwarfs that I ever grew in containers, I enjoyed growing and eating Coastal Pride Orange so much that I literally recommended them to everyone. A big attractor for me was the 3 to 4 ft vine, beautiful rugose leaf foliage, and very pretty deep orange ripened fruits. Vines are not excessively prolific but they aren't slouches either. They produce a good amount of fruits that ripen in about 80 days. In some ways, Costal Pride Orange reminds me of Dad's Sunset or even Amish Gold Slicer, just on a shorter vine.  Tomatoes are sweetish, meaty, medium-mild, and delicious. There is also a nice aroma to them when they are fully ripened. Containers or in-the-ground planting both work excellently. Some staking would be helpful.

    I am so excited to write about this tomato that I am all tingly inside. Cleota Pink tomato was one of our best 5 selections In 2017. Out of 200 varieties grown, Cleota Pink was one of the standouts! Extra large tomatoes, constantly cross 1.5 pounds and even produce plenty of 2 pound and bigger fruits. This big beauty is very meaty and balanced. I haven't really tasted a beefsteak quite like it. Vines are potato leaf and grow to about 6 feet tall in full sunlight. Fruits begin to ripen about 85 days after transplant and continue on until frost. Do with this beauty whatever you want!
