Reinhard Kraft's Purple Sugar Tomato
Reinhard Kraft's Purple Sugar Tomato was my winner for best tasting cherry in 2019. These things are packed with flavor! I especially loved its production too! Intense and tasty, wet and tart fruits were missing nothing. Similar in looks to Chocolate Cherry and Rosella and Black Cherry, this one, for me, beset them all for taste. Large bunches of about 10-15 fruits just kept coming all summer long. Plants are hardy and tall. If you like a forward tasting tomato that has everything. Taste Patio Tomato
If you are looking for a very good tomato for slicing in salads or for garnish, Taste Patio tomato will easily do the job. One of my favorite varieties in 2o19, by one of my favorite breeders, Fred Hempel! Plants are determinate and produce so much, that you will never stop harvesting them. These are very delicious in every way. Sweet, tangy, fruity, semi crispy and are so tasty that I ate many at first blush! Intensely colored bi-color fruits are about 2 inches long. Domingo Tomato
Domingo tomato is a fat, unapologetic beefsteak with fantastic taste. Fruits can reach 2.5 pounds but average 1.5. Sweeter, meaty, old fashioned taste will suck you in and keep you wanting more. Perfect for sandwiches and so much more. Production is good for such a large variety, but not prolific. Pink fruits begin to ripen about 85 days after transplant. Our plants had good resistance to early and late blight. These will benefit from early staking and deep watering every once in a while. Great looking, crack free fruits! You will need to find your slice of bread under these. They are huge! A keeper for me! -
Tlacolula Pink Tomato
Tlacolula Pink tomato plants are tall, and prolific producers of ruffled, bell-shaped tomatoes, that are about 2-4 ounces. Our plants showed good disease resistance and determination to produce in adverse conditions. Plants also like to spread so get ready for some continual tying up Stake early! These are perfect for sauces, garnish, cooking and fresh eating. Sweeter mild and pleasing with a medium-soft texture, it has a taste that can work well in any applications. Makes great salsa too! Expect your first ripened fruits around 75 days after transplant. A big hit at the farmers market! Try stuffing these with some flavored or Mexican rice, topped with cheese. Delicious! -
Viva Le Bruno White Tomato
There is so much I could say about Viva Le Bruno White Tomato! But I would just say that I feel very fortunate to have grown this variety this year. I'll start by saying that production is very high. Plants are hardy and never stop producing. This is a very tough variety that came through long spells of rain and even longer periods of drought. Nonetheless, they produced what seemed like millions of 4-8 ounce, pale yellow fruits. When t comes to taste, this tomato has a delicate fruity finish, nice sweetness with really good texture that results in a winning flavor that kept me eating and eating. In conclusion, this is a very good tomato that I would easily give seven stars. Sauce, cooking, garnish, sandwiches and more! -
Pumpkin Oxheart Tomato
This year, 2019, we were again fortunate to secure some really neat oxheart varieties. And Pumpkin Oxheart tomato is another fine member of the oxheart family! Medium sized fruits are nicely heart shaped and eye catching. Ripening to a nice rich pink, this selection has a mild and complete tomato taste. I would classify this as a sweeter tomato. I really like this tomato because it is not overwhelming and can fit into any scenario. Sandwiches, sauces, it has nice texture for salads, cooking, stews etc. It truly is a great tasting fruit. You can't go wrong with Pumpkin. Nice production and good disease resistance. Stake early for best results. -
Girthmire's Pride Tomato
Girthmire's Pride tomato could easily become one of my favorite varieties. I like it's production, unique oxheart look, disease resistance and determination in tough weather conditions. Meaty and flavorful fruits will suck you right in! These tomatoes have superb texture and are ready-made for sandwiches. But they are perfect for sauces and cooking too. Great choice for canning! I like them best right off the vine. Try biting into one from the pointy blossom end, delicious!! Plants produce plenty 6-12 ounce fruits that are sweet, juicy, fleshy and may I say again, beautifully textured! 80 days to ripen but the wait is well worth it. No salt needed! -
Reinhard Kraft's Chocolate Heart Tomato
The most beautiful chocolate oxhearts that you will ever see! Full flavored, intense taste and so beautiful! When you grow Reinhard Kraft's Chocolate Heart tomato you will immediately put it on your annual list. I couldn't eat many of these because 4 of my 6 plants died in the floods after 21 days of non-stop rain. I saved all of the seeds I could from most of the remaining fruits and only ate three smaller fruits. They were so good that I am growing many more plants next year for seeds, market and personal use. Intensely colored brown fruits are meaty, wonderfully textured and aromatic. Great choice for almost anything, but you must eat a few right off of the vine. Plants produce plenty! Great disease resistance! Recommended! -
Big Orange From Amuz Tomato
Pretty and blemish-free, yellow tomatoes are oblate and delicious. These are not really large. Our biggest was about 10 ounces but most fruits were between 6 and 8 ounces. Big Orange From Amuz tomato is a keeper for us. I really loved how abundant it was in 2019. Plants produced prolifically and pretty early too. Our first ripened fruits came in around 70-75 days, making it one of the earliest in the garden. Taste is sweet and mild with a nice fruity finish. Plenty juice on these. Polish Pastel tomato is a 6-8 ounce, bi-color variety that has many uses. These make great sauce, tomato juice, fresh salsa and even stewed tomatoes. As far as flavor, this one is sweeter and mild with hardly any acidity. There is a fruity after-taste that is very pleasing. When sliced, these are juicy with inviting aroma. Texture is softer, but not too much. Very good snack too! Try a few off the vine, you will love them. Plants are tall and produce exceptionally well. You can expect your first ripened fruits around days 75-80. The wait will be worth it! -
Zebra Ezel Tomato
Looking for a really pretty and tasty tomato for garnish, sauces, market sales and more? Zebra Ezel tomato will definitely work. This delicious variety will turn heads every time in your garden. It will also be a great conversation starter. Very prolific plants are hardy and produce bunches of about 4-5 fruits, that begin to ripen about 75 days after transplant. When ripened, bi-colored fruits are blends of green with light streaks of orange. Plants are tall so early and effective staking would help. Zebra Ezel has an earthy taste that is complex. Peppermint Tomato
Peppermint tomato is a very beautiful variety that packs nice sweet flavor too. True to the yellow bi-color family, this variety is so sweet that it's almost like a tropical fruit. When sliced, Peppermint easily wins any bi-color competition. Colors are vibrant and present like a carnival of rainbow colors. It also has a very nice aroma when totally ripened. This is the perfect garnish and sandwich tomato. With some creativity, you can make the prettiest platter with these. Plants are good producers and hard workers. These are a little bit later, but when they start coming on they never stop. Our biggest was close to one pound. Stake well and the rewards will be yours. 82 days. Recommended! White Eyez Tomato
White Eyez tomato is a stable variant of Dragon's Eye. Light yellow tomates with speckles of green and gold are very tasty and refreshing. In 2015, when I first discovered these in my garden, I was baffled. I have grown them each year since then and they have always produced the same thing. Plants are about 6 feet tall and produce bunches of 5-6 golf ball sized fruits with wonderful flavor and texture. For me, taste is not similar to Dragon's Eye, which is a delicious variety also. White Eyez is fruitier and perhaps has a bit more balance. Both are great though! Expect your first ripened fruits around 70 days after transplant. Perfect for snacking, garnish. -
Rosella Tomato
If you know of everyone who doesn't love Rosella tomato, I would like to have a serious talk with them. Purple cherries bear on trellises of 10-15 and are so good that they will never make it out of your garden. I ate many of these while working and I could never get enough. Plants are prolific, hardy and determined to produce their crops. Ours made it through a very tough summer without any issues. Plants remained healthy until season's end. These are sweet, with some tang, very balanced, juicy with super overall flavor. Great cherry for canning, perfect for snacking, excellent for dehydrating, a treat in salads, almost perfect in every way. No splitting or cracking. Hardy plants too! 75 Days! Date Fruit Tomato
Date Fruit tomato is a wonderful find for us this year. This wonder firm cherry variety makes a great keeper. Semi Determinate plants produce massive amounts of sweet yellow cherries. Our tersely each had 10-20 fruits on them. These plants never stop going, producing fruits that had long keeping life after harvest. Date fruit is a salad lover's dream. Sliced or used whole in salads, the perk up everything. If you are a market vendor, this is perfect. Short plants are so productive that you will have a hard time harvesting them all, I did. Perfect also for canning, dehydrating or just snacking in the garden. I ate a lot while working. A must try! -
Epstein's Big Zac Tomato
If you are looking for a great tasting beefsteak that will always grow large, Epstein's Big Zac tomato will work for you. Huge pink fruits can reach 3 pounds and grow on potato leaf vines. Plants, though not prolific, produce plenty. I really like its disease resistance. These held up really well even in a tough growing season. Big Zac is fun flavored, tasty and reminds me of Cleota Pink. This is a superb choice for growers wanting a tasty beefsteak, especially for sandwiches. This variety will benefit from early staking. These make thick, meaty slices. I love them! -
Reinhard Kraft's Giant Astrakhansky Tomato
When you grow out Reinhard Kraft's Giant Astrakhansky tomato, you will get beautiful pink fruits that weigh up to 14 ounces. Honestly, these among the best tomatoes that I grew in 2019. Texture as smooth as silk, with perfect balance. Perfect mix of sweets, acids and other complimenting flavors. Plants are prolific and hardy. Ours reached about 5.5 feet. These are mid season tomatoes. Ours begin to ripen around day 80. Superb aroma when fully ripened. Perfect sandwich tomato. Also a great consideration for market sales, slicing, cooking and more. Truly a good all purpose variety. -
Jaune Ridée Dominique Tomato
When my friend Terry from Secret Seed Cartel sent me these seeds, I was so excited. I know that everything she sends me grows and taste great, so I was looking forward to growing this out. When well ripened, Jaune Ridée Dominique Tomato is canary yellow. These are blunt hearts. Plants never stopped producing until season's end. Our were about 6 feet tall and produced lots and lots. They were some of the last to quit production towards the end of the season. Slightly fruity and on the sweet side, it delivers a great tomato experience that is certainly worth growing again in my gardens. Great selection for market sales! Perfect for sauces, garnish, fresh eating and more! -
Cancelmo Family Heirloom
Anyone who knows me would tell you that oxhearts are my favorite family of tomatoes. There are very few that I don't like. I have had Cancelmo Family Heirloom tomato seeds in my thoughts for years but I never grew them out until 2019. What I discovered is that these have totally lived up to the good reputation of pink oxhearts. Very flavorful, tasty and mild, these have excellent texture and plenty meat. They are not as large as some of the others, but they are not too small either. Ours averaged 10-14 ounces., some were around 8 and we did have a few that were about 1 pound. Skinny vines are prolific producers and will produce until frost. A very nice canning, sandwich, market tomato. Dont forget to stake well. Try these, you'll love them. -
Tlacolula Yellow Tomato
Tlacolula Yellow tomato is a fun variety to grow. Sweet and mild, these ruffled fruits are perfect for garnish and stuffing. I have personally made some very delicious sauce with this and its pink sister, Tlacolula Pink. Plants are tall, willing and tough. They produce plenty bell-shaped fruits that are around 4-6 ounces. Disease resistance is excellent! Stake early and you should have a blast growing these out. A real eye candy variety that will be the talking point of your summer tomato garden! Expect fruits until frost. 75 days to ripen after transplant. -
Not Purple Strawberry Tomato
Perhaps one of the best black tomatoes around, Not Purple Strawberry tomato keeps me coming back for more. This 8-12 ounce variety is packed with flavor through and through. Fruits have smooth flavor with fantastic texture, that is forward, old fashioned and very pleasing. Not sweet or tart, just very good! Plants are productive and can tolerate some abuse. Ours made it through 3 weeks or non-stop rain and floods, followed by weeks of absolute drought. Yet, NPS kept on producing. Easily an 8 out of 10. So if you like black tomatoes, or you are wanting to try one for the first time, I highly recommend these. Great for sandwiches, cooking, garnish and so much more. -
Evil Olive Tomato
I really got a surprise when my Evil Olive tomato plants started ripening their fruits. Even as an experienced grower, their exterior colors when fully ripened were stunning and surprising to me. But that's not all! I got an even bigger surprise when I cut them open. Beautiful shades of orange, greens and lime suddenly revealed themselves. Evil Olive plants have a darkish tint to their foliage and produce plenty regular sized cherry tomatoes. Fruit color is dark green with a nice shade of orange on blossom end, when ripened. Taste is nice with a little tang. Great fresh salsa tomato! Also nice for snacking, canning, garnish. Good disease resistance. 75 days after transplant. -
Negrillo de Almoguera Tomato
There is so much I could say about this cultivar. Let me start by saying that it's definitely worth growing. If you love black varieties or even if you have never tried them before, Negrillo de Almoguera tomato is a great way to get you hooked or to keep you coming back. Originating in La Mancha Spain, this very dark variety is beautiful and tasty. Fruits can reach 12-14 ounces but average 8-10. Taste is rich, complex and inviting. Great sandwich tomato with not much evident acidity. Plants produce prolifically and demonstrate good disease resistance. A great choice for market sales too. La Vie En Rose Tomato
La Vie En Rose tomato is one of the most productive, large fruits that I have ever grown. 1 pound fruits are sweet, flavorful and satisfying. Plants are very hard workers and produce prolifically, considering fruit size. I was gifted seeds for these by my friend, Terry at Secret Seed Cartel. Here is her quote. "This tomato is the result of a naturally occurring cross between Claude Brown’s Yellow Giant x unknown pink in the SSC garden. It produced a pink variant and a yellow sister named Moonshiner’s Ball". Our plants were about five to six feet tall and produced 10-20 ounce tomatoes that were prettiest that we grew in 2019. Our first fruits ripened around day 86. Get ready to fill your baskets with lots and lots of big pink tasty tomatoes. Stake well and early for best results. These would make great eye-catchers at your farm stand or market! -
Japanese Oxheart Tomato
The Japanese Oxheart tomato variety are large pink fruit with dense, mildly sweet meat. It is perfect for those not liking a strong tomato but want lots of flesh for their sandwiches. In our grow-outs, plants were bushier and sorter than most oxheart varieties. Ours barely made it to 5 feet tall. plants produced huge, beautiful and perfectly shaped hearts, that were between 1o ounces and 1.5 pounds. Because to it's density, fruits are usually heavier than they look. Few seeds very pleasing taste. Eye pleasing! I am definitely growing these again! Rainbow Cherry tomato is exciting and refreshing. Nice sized cherry tomatoes are beautifully blushed with pinks and yellows and are sweet, mildly tangy and fruity. These are really perfect for snacking, canning, market sales, garnish and so much more! If you wish is to try a new and very flavorful cherry variety, try this one. Plants are prolific, hardy and determined to produce. Most of its tanginess is is evident when not fully ripened. But when well done, they are such a pleasant sweeter treat.
