Alexander B Tomato
Another on of my 2020 surprises, Alexander B, a rarely grown variety, was a true standout in our garden this year. Four to eight ounce fruits are very clean, blemish-free, tasty and satisfying. Seeds for these were shared with me by a friend, and I am so happy that she did. Indeterminate 5-6 feet tall plants are prolific, have many clusters of 4-6 fruits and keep producing all season long. These are sweeter and exceptionally smooth, with good balance. Texture is superb and they make perfect slicers. Great for sandwiches and fresh eating. For me, this variety is a new go-to for market sales and so much more. This is one to love! -
West Virginia Sweetmeat Tomato
West Virginia Sweetmeat tomato is an Amish variety that can easily reach 2.5 pounds. In fact, about 10% of earlier fruits reached and surpassed that mark. A few were 3 pounds or more! Healthy, regular leafed plants, are hard working and produce quite nicely, though not prolific. Production was very pleasing and nonstop until season's end. The flavor is sweet, very rich and delicious. Texture was also very good. Plants MUST be staked properly, with some extra support for individual fruits where needed. Expect your first ripened fruit out 80 days after transplant. A great choice for sandwiches and so much more! If you love them huge with good flavor, this one's for you! -
African Queen Tomato
Just so you would know, out of about 120 new varieties for 2020/2021, African Queen tomato is the very first listing. This is so because it is one of the most memorable varieties for our season. I love everything about this variety. 1-1.5 pound fruits grow on healthy potato leafed vines that can reach 6 feet. Production is fantastic and non-stop. One of the earliest large varieties to ripen for us. Our plants were loaded from the very bottom, all the way to the very top. Excellent disease resistance. Taste is very balanced and memorable. Not too sweet or acidic. Texture is superb, just waiting for you to bite into. Excellent choice for sandwiches, market sales and a lot more. Perfect as a main crop. You must grow this one!! -
Blackberry Lilly Seeds
A real head-turner in any garden, Blackberry Lilly is a hardy perennial. Excellent for zones 5-10, it will return year after year in all of its glory. Plants grow to about 3 feet tall and blooms from mid to late summer. After a beautiful bloom, these produce blackberry sized and shaped seed heads that turn black when ripened. Though not edible, they make wonderful dried flower arrangements that can last for years. These will also make great additions to fresh cut bouquets. If you have full sun or part shade, these should do excellently. May bloom first year if set out early, but by second year they show themselves amply and beautifully. -
Salsa Pomodoro Tomato.
One of the best sauce tomatoes you will every find, Salsa Pomodoro tomato makes thick, rich and sweet sauce, that will blow you way! The end result reminds me of Amish Paste, but these were even better for me! You don't even have to try and your sauce will still taste great! I planted some Mushroom Basket tomatoes one year and this red variant came up. Nice sized, heavily ruffled tomatoes are eye-catching. A few more trial runs and here we are! These seem to be pretty stable. They never varied at any point. Sweet, with a medium-firm texture, they make great salsa, fresh and cooked, too! Plants have excellent disease resistance and are about 5 feet tall. Very nice production. Try these, you'll love them! -
Sierra Leone Tomato
Looking for an exceptional sauce variety? Try Sierra Leone tomato. Hardy vines produce heavily and relatively early. These have good disease resistance and need staking early. Taste is sweet, full flavored and satisfying. makes thick, sweet and rich sauce. Good too for tomato ketchup. Expect first ripened fruits around 70 days from transplant. May also do well for making tomato paste. Great too for stuffing with all kinds of goodies. Definitely worth growing if you love sauce! -
Welcome to Tuckwood Favorite Tomato. This one is not very common, but having grown it, I wish that more fanciers would. Actually, it has become one of Curtis' favorites. Tall, vibrant plants produce heavily from mid-season until frost. Tomatoes are bright red and delicious. Not sweet or tart, Tuckwood Favorite has excellent, balanced, old time flavor. Belle Arlesienne Tomato
Belle Arlesienne Tomato is a rare and tasty French variety. I am certainly happy that I grew these out! Nicely textured fruits are between 6 and 10 ounces, are sweet with forward taste and have very interesting secondary flavors. Only one of our plants made it because of severe flooding in 2o19, but I am so happy that it did, because I really like this one. Next year 2020, I will be growing out many more plants. Belle Arlesienne has a good texture and wonderful aroma. Nice slicing variety. Overall pleasing variety. I especially appreciate that in a rare sort! Seed Source: Gatersleben France, # LYC 93. -
African Beefsteak Tomato
A true taster, African Beefsteak tomato is a full flavored variety that veers on the sweeter side. More mild than strong, this variety would be a great addition to any beefsteak garden. Fruits are 10-16 ounces. Plants produce plenty, but not prolifically. Disease resistance is very good and plants are about five to six feet tall.. These make great sandwiches and slicing tomatoes. A nice selection for market sales also. Stake well and early and you will be well rewarded! -
Summer Sunrise Tomato
Summer Sunrise tomato is a pleasant treat in any garden. Blemished free fruits are produced on short plants that produce plenty. This mid-season variety is sweeter, fruity and mild. Good keepers, these are perfect for slicing, salads, canning and tomato juice. Plants are vibrant. and hardy. Ours survived a brutal spring and early summer. Fruits averaged four to six ounces. Rare and worth it. -
Carmin Violet Tomato
Carmin Violet tomato is a cutie slicing variety with very good taste. Soft but not mushy, it has a wonderful aroma when fully ripened. I was surprise by its very nice, mild flavor that still delivered completeness. I really enjoyed this tomato but did not try it in any applications. The only way I had it was fresh off of the vine. Very good experience. Six to ten ounce, oblate fruits, grow on hardy 5 feet tall plants. Big production, mid-season ! Expect your first ripened fruits around 75 days from transplant. -
The Very Best Tomato
I happen to think that this is a great tomato name! I mean who wouldn't be interested in a variety named The Very Best. I grew these out expecting big things and I wasn't disappointed. My four plants produced plenty 10-14 ounce pink beefsteaks, that were sweet, meaty and delicious. Its taste isn't complicated, just a nice old fashioned, full-flavored one! When I tasted my first one, I immediately knew that this variety would be awesome for sandwiches. Our plants were big, tall and vibrant. They were really good with disease resistance and also weren't bothered with extreme weather. These are great, try them! Everyone would like The Very Best Tomato! -
Chansky Early Tomato
The second variety to ripen in our 2019 grow-outs, this basket variety is eye catching and tasty too! Short, determinate plants hold on to every bloom, making them very prolific. , These are pretty unique looking. I definitely had my eyes on them all summer long! Though perfect for baskets, we grew ours in the ground. Because of their short height and sprawling habit, that presented some challenges but we were able to make it work. Plants are not more than 18 inches tall. They produce plenty slightly egg shaped cherry fruits, that are whiteish when green. They turn into a mild red when fully ripened. Balanced flavor, great for an early tomato. Snacking, canning, salads and more. Worth my while! Get your baskets ready! Novelty! -
Sandul Moldovan Tomato
A wonderful beefsteak with good balance is what you will get when you grow out Sandul Moldovan tomato. Ten ounce pink beauties will please you, especially when you try them between two slices of bread. These make wonderful sandwiches! Texture is smooth and inviting. Overall taste is sweet mild and slightly fruity. Really good tomato, that for me, is an easy 7 out of 10. Plants produce plenty and are a bit tall. Ours were about 6 feet. Sandul Moldovan is also a nice tomato for just biting into. Little to no cracking on ours. Recommended! -
San Marzano Redorta Tomato
Every year I make a lot of tomato sauce. Some of my main tomatoes for this task are, Goatbag, Kapia Red, Abbittista, Jersey Devil and a few more. This year, 2019, I grew out San Marzano Redorta for the first time. The sauce I made with this variety was fantastic! So from now on, these will be on my favorite list too. San Marzano Redorta have thick meat and sweet taste. They cook down into some fine tasting tomato sauce. Plants are hard workers and produce plenty 3 inch long fruits that keep coming until season's end. Also a nice canning and paste variety. Put these on your "favorite sauce tomato" list. You wouldn't regret it! -
Tomate Cimarron Legendario
One of the strangest tasting varieties I have ever grown, Tomate Cimarron Legendario is truly difficult for me to explain. It's not sweet or acidic. In fact, it doesn't even taste like a tomato. There is a lingering taste that's interesting and inviting, but to me, it's not very tomatoey. It's a Cuban cherry variety for which I was gifted seeds. What I do know is that it has perhaps the best resistance to disease than any variety I have ever grown. This variety is prolific, hardy and as solid as you could find. I am just not sure about the taste. Try some and give me some feedback. 65 days to ripen from transplant. (Gatersleben LYC 3468) -
Luchese Tomato is a serious beefsteak for serious tomato sandwich lovers. These are 1 pound and bigger fruits with intense tomato taste. That have a medium-firm texture and dense meat. Really nice aroma too. Ours began to ripen around 85 days after transplant and produced a good crop. Our largest was one pound and twelve ounces. Average weight was 12-16 ounces. Plants are tall and thick so much staking is required. One of our best beefsteaks in 2019, we will definitely be growing it again in 2020. If you are serious about tomato sandwiches, you must try this one! -
When I first heard about someone sharing Cherokee Purple Potato Leaf tomato seeds, I was very skeptical. Nonetheless, I decided to try them. What I got was prolific plants that produced dark colored, 8-12 ounce fruits that were tasty, sweeter and juicy. They had very good flavor but different texture to Cherokee Purple. Potato leafed plants were very disease resistant and never showed any signs of diseases. As evidence that this is a good tomato, it was one of the few varieties that raccoons attacked in our garden. Raccoons do not touch our tomatoes if they are not tasty. They kept returning these plants night after night. These are great for sandwiches, sauces, market sales and more. -
Viva Le Bruno White Tomato
There is so much I could say about Viva Le Bruno White Tomato! But I would just say that I feel very fortunate to have grown this variety this year. I'll start by saying that production is very high. Plants are hardy and never stop producing. This is a very tough variety that came through long spells of rain and even longer periods of drought. Nonetheless, they produced what seemed like millions of 4-8 ounce, pale yellow fruits. When t comes to taste, this tomato has a delicate fruity finish, nice sweetness with really good texture that results in a winning flavor that kept me eating and eating. In conclusion, this is a very good tomato that I would easily give seven stars. Sauce, cooking, garnish, sandwiches and more! -
Reinhard Kraft's Giant Astrakhansky Tomato
When you grow out Reinhard Kraft's Giant Astrakhansky tomato, you will get beautiful pink fruits that weigh up to 14 ounces. Honestly, these among the best tomatoes that I grew in 2019. Texture as smooth as silk, with perfect balance. Perfect mix of sweets, acids and other complimenting flavors. Plants are prolific and hardy. Ours reached about 5.5 feet. These are mid season tomatoes. Ours begin to ripen around day 80. Superb aroma when fully ripened. Perfect sandwich tomato. Also a great consideration for market sales, slicing, cooking and more. Truly a good all purpose variety. -
Jaune Ridée Dominique Tomato
When my friend Terry from Secret Seed Cartel sent me these seeds, I was so excited. I know that everything she sends me grows and taste great, so I was looking forward to growing this out. When well ripened, Jaune Ridée Dominique Tomato is canary yellow. These are blunt hearts. Plants never stopped producing until season's end. Our were about 6 feet tall and produced lots and lots. They were some of the last to quit production towards the end of the season. Slightly fruity and on the sweet side, it delivers a great tomato experience that is certainly worth growing again in my gardens. Great selection for market sales! Perfect for sauces, garnish, fresh eating and more! -
La Vie En Rose Tomato
La Vie En Rose tomato is one of the most productive, large fruits that I have ever grown. 1 pound fruits are sweet, flavorful and satisfying. Plants are very hard workers and produce prolifically, considering fruit size. I was gifted seeds for these by my friend, Terry at Secret Seed Cartel. Here is her quote. "This tomato is the result of a naturally occurring cross between Claude Brown’s Yellow Giant x unknown pink in the SSC garden. It produced a pink variant and a yellow sister named Moonshiner’s Ball". Our plants were about five to six feet tall and produced 10-20 ounce tomatoes that were prettiest that we grew in 2019. Our first fruits ripened around day 86. Get ready to fill your baskets with lots and lots of big pink tasty tomatoes. Stake well and early for best results. These would make great eye-catchers at your farm stand or market! -
Harvard Square Tomato
A standout for us in 2019, Harvard Square tomato will remain in my gardens from now on. Delicious fruits have unique fruitiness and after-taste that results in a very pleasing experience. Beautiful inside and out, this variety is a huge producer. Well ripened fruits are beautifully bi-colored and will turn heads. Ripeed fruits can also have pinkish blush on the blossom end, which can seep trough to it's flesh. Just a beautiful selection. Fruits begin to ripen about 75 days after transplant. Amateur's Dream Tomato
What a wonderful find for us this year! Amateur's Dream tomato, along with 200 rare types, were gifted to me by a tomato loving friend. Many of these came without real histories, and it was difficult to find information on most. This Siberia variety produces hardy and prolific plants. Ours easily survived in extreme weather conditions. Four to eight ounce fruits have solid old fashioned flavor and make great slicing tomatoes. These are surprisingly tasty for an early variety. They began to ripen about 68 days after transplant. Very nice texture on these, not mild. Good balance! Early staking would be beneficial as they begin producing not long after transplant. Very nice and early slicer tomato! Good for short season climates. -
Big Anna Tomato
If you have craved a huge, delicious variety that ripens relatively early, check out Big Anna Tomato. I first got these in 2015 and grew them out in 2018. Unfortunately, I forgot to take images of them. This year, 2019, I grew them out again for images and also because they were so good! I didn't just grow two plants, I grew five. Honestly, I feel blessed to have been gifted this Awesome family heirloom. Smooth flesh that has nice balance, veers towards the sweet side with healthy hints of acidity. My largest was 2.1 pounds and on the smaller side they are about 12 ounces. On both grow-outs our plants reached about 6 feet tall. They produce plenty but are not super prolific. Recommended! Try them!
