Our market tomatoes category is full of good stuff that work well as head turners but also pack tons of wonderful flavors. We have included varieties for almost purpose. from my personal experience, market customers search for four main categories. Sauce and paste, novelty (such as odd shapes, anthos and pears), sandwich types, (which are usually beefsteak and or larger than one pound) and cherries. Joe's Pink Oxheart Tomato
A really smooth oxheart tomato experience is how I would describe Joe's Pink tomato. This one slices really nicely and makes a really good compliment for tomato sandwiches. its taste is sweeter and mild with a really good texture. Nice for sauces too! I like this tomato a lot. Plants are tall and have regular leaves that are not too wispy. Production is heavy, but a little later in the season. Your wait will be well worth it! Moses Tomato
Moses Tomato is an exceptionally nice variety. Boasting a full flavored, old fashioned and sweeter taste, I happen to think it's the perfect compliment for a tomato sandwich. Indeterminate, vibrant plants have potato leaves. They produce amply, so you will have plenty of fruits. Ours started ripening just after mid-season. Plants also demonstrated good disease resistance, which I liked. Expect fruits up to 0ne pound. This 60 year old variety is a Kentucky heirloom that was first introduced by Dr. Moses of Williamsburg Kentucky. -
Bali Tomato
Bali tomato is a heavy producing Indonesian cultivar. Indeterminate 3.5 - 5 feet tall plants have regular leaves. They produce large clusters of fruits all summer long. Fruits have heavy ribbing and are raspberry pink when fully ripened and have very nice aroma. On the acidic side. A pleasure! -
Black Early Tomato
A dark chocolate colored beefsteak tomato that tends to ripen a bit earlier than most blacks. Tomatoes are between 10-14 0unces. Regular leafed plants produce plenty fruits that tend to have a rich, sweet but smoky flavor. You will have plenty of these to share with your friends and family. A must for market vendors. Cherokee Lime Stripes Tomato
Deriving form a selection by Mr Bill Jeffers, Cherokee Lime Stripes tomato is a very visually appealing variety with fabulous taste too. Striking green and pinkish/purple bi colored fruits are usually about 6-8 ounces and are borne on heavy producing plants. These never stop coming all season long. These are sweeter with some acidic tones but very satisfying. Not a complex tomato. Great choice for Market sales, garnish, tomato preserves, slicing and more. -

Kenneth's Piennolo Tomato
There's a lot that I can say about Kenneth's Piennolo tomato. For one, skinny potato leafed plants are very hardy. Another thing is that these start ripening relatively early in the season. Continuing on, these have very good, sweet flavor and make great garden snacks. Perhaps the most outstanding quality of this variety is that it has exceptional shelf life. Here's my story. I hadn't realized that I left some of these in a plastic shopping bag on the south side of my house. About 6 weeks later when I was doing some cleaning, I discovered the bag and opened it up. Every tomato was in excellent shape! This, to me, took this tomato from a good tomato to an excellent variety for storing, especially after the season has ended. It makes great sauce and is even great when dehydrated. Cooking, salsas and more will all benefit from Kenneth's Piennolo. Give these a try.!! -
Varsovia is a dark purple tomato that originates in Poland. Seeds were given to my friend Terry at Secret Seed Cartel in France, she then shared some with me. I grew them out in 2021. This variety has tremendous appeal and is a very beautiful fruit when fully ripened. You'll definitely be able to differentiate between other purples/blacks because it's one of the darkest fruits. Plants produce plentifully and fruits begin ripening around mid-season. Very eye pleasing variety that has a rich, earthy taste that is complete. Try these, you'll love them. -
Looking for a producer of big pink beefsteaks with superb flavor? Try Todd County Amish tomato. Large potato leafed plants produce big crops of desirable fruits. These are perfect sandwich makers. Taste is very old fashioned. Superb aroma when fully ripened. Not very seedy. You can expect your first ripened fruits about 80 days after transplant. I found my plants to be good with diseases, with no signs of early or late blight. One of my new favorites! Steak these well! -
One of the most prolific dwarf varieties that I have grown, Dwarf Amy's Ohio is a winner. 3 feet tall plants produce beautiful green when ripened fruits, some of which have pinkish blossom ends. When sliced, you will find a pretty and inviting lime green. These are perfect little slicers with sweet and complex flavors. Fruits up to 6 ounces. Perfect for container gardening or raised beds. -
Lopatinskie tomato is a really nice beefsteak that is productive and consistent. Taste is sweetish and full flavored and kind of old fashion. Perfect for slicing and sandwiches. Plants are tall heavy producers and regular leafed. Ours did quite well with diseases. The came through the intense summer weather with flying colors. Stake these well as production is heavy. Get you bushel baskets ready plenty tomatoes are coming! -
Texas Star tomato is a big beautiful bi-color variety with very pleasing taste. I especially like its fruity undertones. Large plants produce 1-2 pound, sweet fruits that remind me of the Caribbean. These were some of the last to remain in the garden as it got colder. Texture is superb! Great sandwich or garnish tomato. Great for fresh salsa. Add some chopped mango, cilantro, garlic, a pinch of lime juice, chopped onions and let it sit for about 20 minutes before you devour the entire thing in one minute. Whatever you choose to do with Texas Star tomato, it's certainly a worthy grow! -
Dwarf Perfect Harmony Tomato
If you are looking for a dependable dwarf variety to grow in ground or in a container, try Dwarf Perfect Harmony tomato. This variety is very hard working and determined to produce. My 3 feet tall plants produced about 6 ounce, canary yellow tomatoes. Plants were always loaded and withstood diseases very well. Perfect Harmony's taste is sweet, not too mild with a hint of acidity. This is a nicely balanced tomato. It has a straight forward tomato taste with no complexities. You'd enjoy this one! -
Dwarf Noah Stripes tomato is a wonderful bi-colored fruit with rich complex flavor. This tomato reminds me of Girl Girl's Weird Thing tomato but on a dwarf plant. Our tree-like plants were no taller than 3.5 feet, had rugose leaves and they were very productive. Definitely one of the hardiest varieties that we grew in 2021. These will do good in larger containers of perhaps 4-5 gallons and with regular feeding and watering. Will have to be staked because of heavy production. Nice little slicer that's definitely worth growing! -
Clayton's Purple is a big, deep pink beefsteak that has fantastic flavor. Most fruits weigh between one and two pounds. Clean and crack-free, you would love these if you like them big and tasty. Its flavor is a bit like the old style tomatoes but not too much. It has a rich and complex finish that will please almost anyone who love that style of tomato. Plants are tall thick and robust. I made many sandwiches with these and truly miss them now that the season has ended. I will continue to grow these annually, whether or not I need seeds. One of my new favorites. About 82 days to first ripened fruits. -

A very flavorful cherry variety, Mexico Midget tomato is a pleasure to grow whether you like cherry tomatoes in your salads or just for snacking on. Plants are about 5-6 feet tall, sometimes taller and produce a prolific crop of dime to nickel sized, full flavored cherries that will keep you snacking. These begin to ripen rather, with our first fruits coming in at 65 days. One of the last varieties to remain on the farm. If you want a very dependable cherry tomato with awesome flavor, try Mexico Midget! -
CJ Russian is another new oxheart for us in 2021. I like these not only because of their good flavor but they proved to be a huge producer and very dependable variety for us. Plants were very prolific vibrant and hardy when some others were struggling. We got tons of these and I am grateful! Fruits are a pretty pink with little to no cracking, regardless of the weather. Taste is rich and mild. CJ Russian slices very nicely for sandwiches, plating etc. This tomato would shine as a sauce variety or even for canning when cut in halves or quarters. Great variety if you have a smaller garden and want bigger crops. -
Goose Rock Tomato is a huge red variety with outstanding old time flavor. These tomatoes were born sandwich ready. Fruits can weigh up to 2.5. Huge plants that can be 7 feet tall just keeps producing until frosts. Really good production for such a large fruit. These come in a little bit late but will be worth every second. Have a look at my images and you will practically be able to taste them. Please stake these well and get ready for bit things!! -
Black Mammoth Tomato
Black Mammoth Tomato is a rich tasting beefsteak that ripens purple/black. These can reach 14 ounces and sometimes more. Vigorous plants produce plenty, relatively crack fruits, that are sandwich ready. This tomato delivers the complete tomato experience for those who like a forward tasting variety! Ours averaged between 8 and 12 ounces but some were a bit larger. Great for market sales, garnish and even some sweet dark sauce or stew. You'll love these! 80-85 Days! Delicious 80 Days! -
Another nice surprise for me in 2021. I absolutely paid this variety no attention and almost didn't have enough time to harvest them. When I was almost done harvesting everything else, Sue's Little Red Heart was there, waiting for me to pick and enjoy. Forward tasting, slightly heart/plum shaped fruits are the perfect garden snack. Free of cracks, I have no doubt that this tomato would make great sauce. It would most definitely be great for dehydrating for powder of flakes, where I feel its flavor will really sparkle. Our plants were about 5 feet tall and seemed to be a little later to ripen, even though I am not sure. Taste was very good! -

Full flavored, old fashioned and complete is how I would describe Daniels tomato. Large fruits can weigh up to 2 pounds but are more often between 14 and 24 ounces. These have very good texture and are perfect for sandwiches. Potato leafed plants are about 5 feet or taller and produce plenty of smooth pink fruits. Good disease resistance and dependable variety that would be a hit at your farmers market. If you are looking for a really good sandwich tomato, here it is! Add it to your list. -
I was gifted Bounty's Best tomato seeds by my friend Shawn @ Bounty Hunter Seeds. This tomato was created and stabilized by Shawn. When I grew them out they were very productive and relatively early. Around 5 feet tall plants produce 4-8 ounce darkened fruits with greenish shoulders and excellent flavor, which I would describe as earthy, with sweets and good balance. Texture was good too. I should mention that plants worked very hard and demonstrated nice disease resistance. Great choice for almost anything tomato. -

Anyone who has ever grown Kosovo tomato knows how very useful it is. True to what oxhearts do, this very tasty variety is a keeper for me from now on. Let's first talk about its production, Kosovo is second to none! Our plants produced fruits that were 6-16 ounces but averaging about 8. Wispy, regular leafed vines were always loaded even as I picked every other day. Each time I visited my plants they seemed untouched and never picked from. As far as taste, these were very good. They were full flavored and tasty. I made some very good sauce with these. I also made stew, fried green tomatoes, sandwiches and ate quite a few in the garden. Wonderful experiences all around! In a nutshell, Kosovo tomato is a multi-use tomato that is second to none! Totally worth growing. -
Seeds gifted to me by a friend, Ideal tomato is a small slicing variety that is the perfect all purpose variety. The first things that comes to mind is tomato stew, market sales and cooking. Taste is kind of old fashioned, medium mild with good overall balance. This variety is not timid as far s production. Our plants just kept pumping them out. I just wished I had the time to harvest more. Regular leafed plants grew to about 6 feet tall and were always loaded. These were pretty early too, starting to ripen around 72 days from transplant. Honestly, I am not sure that I grew a more useful variety in 2021. If you need is for a tomato that's not too large, one that can cover many bases, this is a great choice! -
A pretty antho variety, Primary Colors tomatoes are large cherries with dark top antho pigmentation and canary yellow blossom ends. A milder fruit hints of sweets and fruitiness, this can make the perfect tomato for someone not wanting a too strong tasting variety. Our 4.5 feet tall plants were very productive but late ripening. These would be perfect for garnish, drying/dehydrating, cooking, snacking and more. Try these in larger containers, they should also do well. Must be staked well. -
Blue Ridge Mountain Tomato
Blue Ridge Mountain tomato was a very nice find for us this year. Wonderful tasting, smooth, pink fruits weigh between 12 and 16 ounces. These are full flavored with good old fashioned taste. Potato leafed plants are prolific, grow to about 6 feet tall and demonstrated nice disease resistance for us. These are perfect beefsteaks tomatoes that would also do well in many different settings. On sandwiches they are great! Although I only ate them fresh and had sandwiches with them. I could see this variety being a very good cooking tomato. If you are a tomato addict, you will not regret growing these. Recommended! -

Our biggest surprise in 2021, Alleghany Sunset has earned its place in our forever garden. Prolific plants just kept pumping them out and we took all that we could get. This is a fruity and sweeter variety that will ripen a little later but is definitely worth the wait. Bi-colored fruits of yellow and reds are produced on regular leafed plants that grow to about 6 feet tall. They demonstrated nice disease resistance and held on until season's end.
