Sart Roloise Tomato
Sart Roloise tomato is a newer variety that has quickly gained popularity. It has a very unique and distinct coloration. A member of the anthocyanin family, this tomato proudly boasts its colors on its skin. It is one of the few varieties that is black on the top side and white on the bottom end. There may also be bluish blackish vertical streaks on parts of this beautiful tomato. Sart Roloise vines are tall and skinny. They produce clusters of 5, or so, tomatoes that are sweet and earthy with lots of juice. They turn dark purple wherever the sun touches them. Fruits vary in weight from 4 to perhaps 8 ounces. Many of ours were in the 6 ounce range. They are among some of the most beautiful tomatoes that you will ever lay your eyes on! These are great for slicing, garnishing, and sandwiches. Brad's Black Heart tomato is another one that surprised me in 2017. Wispy, 5-6 foot vins produce a surprising amount darkened colored, blunt oxhearts, that could reach 1 pound. My first taste test with these was very pleasing. I found that they were full flavored, with nice balance of juice, sugars and tang. There was also something else that I am yet to place my finger on. It was all good though! Our plants produced well into fall without any signs of diseases. -
Some people say that Carbon tomato is perhaps the best black tomato there is. I say, it's pretty close. Certainly, it's one to be reckoned with! It's not often that I am blown away by the taste of a tomato. Carbon had that effect on me. Before I forget, let me say that some of the best sandwiches that I have had were with these. Carbon is a full flavored tomato that is rich, balanced and excessively good. Our plants were about 5 feet tall in full sunlight. They produced plenty 8-12 ounce fruits that are delightful. A MUST GROW for any garden! -
Blue Pear Tomato
My absolute favorite of the 2017 season, Blue Pear Tomato was truly something to behold. Beautiful and mostly clean pear shaped fruits, are different shades of black and reds, with each color fading into each other. A member of the antho family, Blue Pear Tomato should be in everyone's garden. Bred by Ruslan Doohov, one of Europe's premier breeders, Blue pear fruits realize their richest colors colors when fully ripened. Vines were very disease resistant and prolific. In fact it took a second, heavier frost to take them out. Blue Pear is sweet, juicy, rich and very satisfying. It's a very pleasing tomato through and through. How I wish I had grown more Longhorn tomato plants in 2021! These were sooo good! I am not sure what happened and how I only ended up with two plants, but I never grow two plants of anything! Nonetheless, I am happy that I experienced this delicious dark colored oxheart. Our plants were between 5 and 6 feet tall. Leaves were wispy but not excessively and plants produced plenty, though not prolific. Taste is well balanced, a bit earthy and satisfying. I especially love the texture of this tomato, just a smooth finish. Fruit size between 6 and 12 ounces. This is a perfect sandwich tomato. I didn't do anything else with it but I suspect it will make some good sauce. Without a doubt I will be growing this one in 2022. -

85 Days. I am a huge tomato sauce maker and I love this tomato! It makes the most delicious deep brown, sweet sauce that is perfect on spaghetti. 3 to 4inch long, deep brown tomatoes, are late to ripen and early to the sauce-pan. They have few seeds and sweet flesh. Note: I have noticed that a few do get cracks, but it really doesn't matter because sauce is what I am after. They all go right in da pan! -
Bingo Cherry was gifted to us by Mr Bill Jeffers. It's a meaty and firmer little fruit that is all about taste. Ripening to a nice brownish color, this tomato is sweet and juicy with a really rich finish. 6 foot vines produce big crops of nickel to quarter sized cherries that begin to ripen about 75 days after transplant. These produced all the way until frost. Great for snacking, market sales, jams or jellies and drying. -
One of the prettiest pear tomatoes that we grow, Evans Purple Pear tomato is stunning, With good taste. Ripening to a deep purple color with greenish shoulders, this beauty is a head turner. It's rich and mild wth very complexed and earthy flavors. I love this tomato! It's perfect for salsa, snacking, garnishing and drying. Great for market sales too. Plants are radiant and prolific! -
0-Days. Nairobi Nights tomato seeds were sent to me by my African friend. This is a very rich, balanced and delicious tomato that everyone should grow. For me, this is a complete tomato and it will always have a regular spot in my garden. There is some similarities to Black Trim, which is a good tomato, but I feel that Nairobi Nights is a far superior fruit. It seems to love hotter weather and just flourishes during the height of the season here. Add this one to your rotation of black tomatoes. -
KARMA Purple Tomato
If you are seeking a purple, larger cherry variety with superb taste, try KARMA Purple Tomato. With this one you will find superb taste, good production, hardy plants that are early producing and also good for northern gardens. There is truly no downside to KARMA purple. Breeder Karen Olivier of Canada and Marsha Eisenberg of Florida collaborated on this and others in the KARMA series. Purple is rich, juicy and sweet with nice aroma when fully ripened. Its slightly different from it's sister, KARMA Purple Multiflora, which produces slightly smaller and earlier fruits that are just as good. All in the series are potato leafed. You couldn't go wrong with any variety in the KARMA series! -
Not Purple Strawberry Tomato
Perhaps one of the best black tomatoes around, Not Purple Strawberry tomato keeps me coming back for more. This 8-12 ounce variety is packed with flavor through and through. Fruits have smooth flavor with fantastic texture, that is forward, old fashioned and very pleasing. Not sweet or tart, just very good! Plants are productive and can tolerate some abuse. Ours made it through 3 weeks or non-stop rain and floods, followed by weeks of absolute drought. Yet, NPS kept on producing. Easily an 8 out of 10. So if you like black tomatoes, or you are wanting to try one for the first time, I highly recommend these. Great for sandwiches, cooking, garnish and so much more. -
Hooked On Cherry Tomato

Hooked On Cherry is a sweet black fruit that is great for salads, snacking, preserves, market sales and so much more. Crack free fruits are stunningly beautiful and inviting. Seeds were first given to me by Bill Jeffers of Evansville Indiana and they seemed to be unstable. After growing it out for several years, it now is very stable! Its original name was T-Black Cherry, but Bill explained to me that that name was used from one of its parents. Given the permission to change its name, I have decided to call it Hooked On Cherry. You would love this fruit! So sweet and juicy, prolific plants, excellent disease resistance! So much upside! I am truly hooked! You'll be too! -
D.B. Cooper Tomato
A Millard Murdock tomato, D.B. Cooper tomato is a cross between Marianna's Peace tomato, (one of my favorites) and an unknown black variety. Flattened beefsteak fruits can reach one pound and are generally in the 12-16 ounce range. Expect slight ribbing with slightly green shoulders. Rich and satisfying flavor with some smoky undertones. Purple Light Tomato
Purple Light tomato is a rare heirloom with very good flavor. True to the black/purple family of tomatoes, this one has balanced flavors of sweets and acids. Plants are indeterminate and regular leafed. This one has a memorable taste that can keep you hooked. Expect heavy production and fruits that are between 10-16 ounces. If you love great tasting black tomatoes, try this one! -
Dice's Mystery Black Tomato
Dice's Mystery Black tomato is a sweeter black variety with low acidity. It is said that a stray plant grew out of a pack of seeds of another variety. Regular leafed plants are high producers of 5-8 ounce fruits. You can expect your fruits around Mid-season. -
Varsovia is a dark purple tomato that originates in Poland. Seeds were given to my friend Terry at Secret Seed Cartel in France, she then shared some with me. I grew them out in 2021. This variety has tremendous appeal and is a very beautiful fruit when fully ripened. You'll definitely be able to differentiate between other purples/blacks because it's one of the darkest fruits. Plants produce plentifully and fruits begin ripening around mid-season. Very eye pleasing variety that has a rich, earthy taste that is complete. Try these, you'll love them. -
Black Early Tomato
A dark chocolate colored beefsteak tomato that tends to ripen a bit earlier than most blacks. Tomatoes are between 10-14 0unces. Regular leafed plants produce plenty fruits that tend to have a rich, sweet but smoky flavor. You will have plenty of these to share with your friends and family. A must for market vendors. A very unique tomato that seems to be sandwich ready, JD'S Special C-Tex Tomato is packed full of flavor too! Productive plants seem to surprise with their production when the finally start. Ours were high producing and just south of mid-season. Fruits were between 6 and 10 ounces, with a few just bigger. Once they have started ripening, you'll have them until frost. A great selection for sandwiches and although n0t a sauce specialist, I did make some very fine sauce with this one. A pleasure to grow. If you haven't tried these, please do! -
Mikado Black tomato is another very nice variety with solid flavor. These make perfect slicers and are very good on sandwiches. 6 feet tall plants produce very pretty blackish fruits that average about 8 ounces. I really like the aroma these have when fully ripened. Our plants were good with diseases and withstood the heavy rains of June and part of July, to produce abundantly. Good choice also for stewing and market sales. Sweetish and smoky with very good after-taste. A nice selection for any tomato garden! -
Without a doubt, Daniel Burson tomato was a huge hit for us in 2021. This tomato totally surprised me. Production, production, production. In fact it was one of the last remaining in the garden. This cross between Indian Stripe and Daniels happened in the garden of Mr. Bill Jeffers of Evansville Indiana. Our plants were potato leafed and excessively hardy and produced large oblate fruits. Taste is rich and superb! Texture is outstanding! Our plants were about 5 feet tall. If you are looking for a really nice black tomato. Here you go! -
Paul Robeson European tomato is a black plum that has that big flavor of some of the better blacks. Plants are prolific and ripen fruits relatively early. This, to me, was one of the better cherry/plum varieties that I grew in 2021. Deep chocolate fruits have rich flavor that is very satisfying and will encourage garden snacking. A little softer to the touch, this is definitely a great choice for saucing, but if caught before over ripened, would make a great addition to salads. Really good aroma that is consistently tempting. -
Spudatula Black Tomato is another great tasting variety. Its taste is earthy, with nice old tomato flavor. Slices very nice for sandwiches. My plants were potato leafed, about 5 feet tall and prolific. Our first fruits began to ripen about 75 days after transplant. As far s disease, potato leafed varieties always do better for me, so this one stood up well to the conditions, and even through weeks of heavy rain and even more weeks of intense heat and humidity. I am definitely growing this one again. Nice smooth texture for slicing. I love it! -
I was gifted Bounty's Best tomato seeds by my friend Shawn @ Bounty Hunter Seeds. This tomato was created and stabilized by Shawn. When I grew them out they were very productive and relatively early. Around 5 feet tall plants produce 4-8 ounce darkened fruits with greenish shoulders and excellent flavor, which I would describe as earthy, with sweets and good balance. Texture was good too. I should mention that plants worked very hard and demonstrated nice disease resistance. Great choice for almost anything tomato. -
Easily one of the more beautiful anthos, I was glad that Afternoon delight also had good flavor. 4-10 ounce fruits were borne on 5.5 feet plants that produced heavily. Ours began ripening around 75 days from transplant. Plants were hardy and tough. These were in a waterlogged spot in our garden and made it through with flying colors when others succumbed. Fruits have very dark antho on the top side, which fades into a beautiful canary yellow on the blossom end. When sliced, Afternoon Delight tomato is beautifully bi colored, demonstrating yellows and deep pink/purplish. Taste is sweet and mild with fruity tones. This is a real beauty. Nice for slicing, garnish/plating, market sales and so much more. Try this delight in your garden this season! -

Haley's Purple Comet Tomato is a very nice, bite sized cherry that is definitely worth growing. Taller plants produce huge amounts of flavorful fruits that make for excellent snacking, especially in the garden. Be ready to harvest a lot when they start ripening. Flavor is complex and satisfying. Some fruity undertones make these ideal for tomato preserves also. Good market crop, great for dehydrating, fresh salsa and more.
