85 Days. Perhaps the best green tomato that I have ever tasted, Malakhitovaya Shkatulka “Malachite Box” tomato is very popular here at Renaissance Farms. Without a doubt, it is the first green when ripe variety that I think about when color matters. Emitting a bright color when sliced, this delicious, rich and delightful gem is packed with a combination of flavors that culminate into perfection! There are many close seconds in our catalog, but if color matters, you should choose this one first! Vines are very productive and show good disease resistance.

Wow! This rates right up there with my favorite GWR varieties. Production was fair, probably due to my cool climate. Gorgeous chartreuse shoulders becoming yellow orange at the base. Flavor was sweet, fruity and rich with an aroma that hinted of ripe melon.

Pretty amazing variety! This plant shot right up and kept pumping out big amber/green tomatoes from mid season to autumn. The plant was healthy, no problems with blight, and it it blew through a historic heat wave like nothing happened. The fruits were pretty much blemish free until the nights started cooling down and then there was some cracking (normal for my region). The texture was also really good, however the flavor was not to my liking. More of an earthy taste without any sweet or much tart to accompany it. I wouldn’t say it tasted bad, it’s just not what I prefer. Also tomatoes can vary greatly in taste from year to year and in different climates, soils, locations etc. To put it into perspective, I find Sungold, Paul Robeson and Green Zebra tomatoes to be absolute spitters when the vast majority of tomato connoisseurs rate them among the very best. Go figure. Anyway I’d highly recommend growing these for no other reason than the vigor and productivity of this variety. And there are some who say this is among the best tasting greens out there.

I have tried many green tomatoes and this is the first one I like enough to re grow. Sweet citrus notes, firm smooth texture. The only problem is that it isn't a good keeper after picking/ needs to be used promptly.

You are right on with this one, Christine. That’s the only down-side. But as far as taste, it’s fantastic. Thanks for all of your very valuable feedback!!
