We grew some really great varieties in 2017. Among the best, was Lucky Cross Tomato. Believe me when I tell you that this is a big, fine, bi-color tomato! Large sweet beefsteaks are marbled with red and yellow streaks, inside and out. Fruits can be as large as 1.5 pounds. Vines have potato leaves and are about 6-7 feet tall. You can expect your first ripened fruits about 85 days after transplant. A very unique fruit that has nice and firmer texture. Production is good. This may be a nice selection for market sales. Stake well and get ready!!

Given the lavish praise I’d read I had really high hopes for this variety, but in the end I was really disappointed. The plants themselves were healthy early on with aggressive vines. Also I really like big potato leaf plants. Unfortunately it dropped a ton of blossoms during a heat wave, far more than any of my other beefsteaks growing in the same bed. The growing tip also got completely singed so I had to use one of the suckers as a new growing tip. This happened to a few of my plants but not the most hardy ones. The result was that I had no ripe fruits until the very end of the season when the nights were cooler, so the few fruits that were on the plant suffered from extreme blossom end rot and splitting. The few small slices from the damaged fruits I was able to salvage did taste great, but not enough for me to try this one again. I will however continue to grow its sister variety Little Lucky as it has none of the problems I had with this one a tastes awesome! And as I’ve mentioned elsewhere the seeds from Curtis are of the highest quality with excellent germination rates.

I grew these for the first time this year, and they are on my 2018 list to grow again. Definitely the favorite y/r bicolor I have ever grown! The Brandywine parentage really shows in taste and texture
