    Blackberry Lilly Seeds

    A real head-turner in any garden, Blackberry Lilly is a hardy perennial. Excellent for zones 5-10, it will return year after year in all of its glory. Plants grow to about 3 feet tall and blooms from mid to late summer. After a beautiful bloom, these produce blackberry sized and shaped seed heads that turn black when ripened. Though not edible, they make wonderful dried flower arrangements that can last for years. These will also make great additions to fresh cut bouquets. If you have full sun or part shade, these should do excellently. May bloom first year if set out early, but by second year they show themselves amply and beautifully.

    (Asclepias tuberosa) One of the hardiest perennials you could possibly find, Butterfly Milkweed will light up your garden every year. plant it once and watch it come back for many years. My patch is about 11 years old. These grow to about 18-24 inches, have deep orange blooms that are highlighted by their pretty green back-drop foliage. Suitable for mostly any soil these will light up your garden from early June and continue for about 6-8 weeks. Expect plenty of butterflies especially Monarchs. Humming birds do buzz around from time to time too!

    One of my favorite flowers to grow, Chinese Forget Me Not is very delightful. I grow mine as splashes of color, a border or just as stand alone in larger patches. Also known as Blue Showers, these beauties will turn heads in your garden when they start blooming. Big bunches of flowers are very attractive, especially to pollinators. Also known as Tall Garden Phlox or Phlox paniculate, this very attractive cultivar is not only beautiful, but vary hardy. They produce beautiful, big bunches of fragrant, deep pink blooms that last from June to August. Stalks can reach 3-4 feet tall depending on location. These love full sun but will flourish in part shade just as well. These are perfect for zones 4-8, but I have heard of instances where they have done well outside of these zones. Truly a wonderful, hardy addition, to your butterfly and humming bird garden.

More than 3o years later, my love for the liatris family has never faded. Liatris-Blazing Star will fit well in any garden or pasture. They also do well in large containers. An attractor of many different pollinators, 3-4 feet tall stalks will be the centerpieces of your garden. It's literally impossible to look past them. Also a nice cut-flower, this perennial just keeps shining. Plants will develope bulbs after a  few years. Bulbs can then be separated and transplanted for quicker growth of more mature plants. 

  • (Torch) Mexican Sunflower  is a fiery orange variety that booms heavily from early summer to fall. This annual works excellently as a cut flower and as a be, butterfly and humming bird attractor. Plants can reach 6 feet tall with several off-shot branches, each loaded with beautiful blooms. These light up the garden wherever they are planted. Full sun is its preference but will do ok in part shade. Beautiful green foliage and distinct growing habit. Every flower garden should have some!

    Penstemon digitalis is one of my favorite wild flowers in the whole world. About 18 years ago(2002) I was slowly driving along the country roads in Mitchell Indiana, when I suddenly noticed this beautiful flower. It was early season, perhaps June, and I couldn't harvest any seeds. About 4 years later these showed up in one of my internet searches. I purchased some seeds and have been growing them since 2007. A very beautiful flower, this is one of the hardiest plants I know of. It will come back year after year, while increasing in the size of its cluster. It also reseeds but not overwhelmingly so. Soft bell shaped, white/pink flower will emerge in early to mid summer. Attracts butterflies, humming birds, bees, pollinators and more! Your flower garden will light up with these, so get ready! About 3 feet tall. Zone 3-8.

    Also known as Echinacea, I first discovered Purple Cone Flower about 20 years ago when I moved to Indiana. Since then, it's been a part of my gardens. A hardy perennial, this beauty comes alive around mid June, just about two months after last frost. Apart from its burst of color in mid spring/early summer, parts of this plant also has very significant medicinal uses. Among the biggest uses is as a pain reliever. When started from seed, you can expect these to bloom in their second year, with a larger core of plants each year. This is not a heavy reseeding variety, but each you will notice a difference that your main plants are increasing in diameter and amount of blooms they put out. Very nice and effective cut flower. Beautiful in any garden!
