Outstanding in every way, Black Mountain Pink tomato is a superb variety. Easily, this one has worked itself into my annual planting list. Rich, flavorful, tasty and satisfying, this sweeter fruit is really well balanced. If you love good old time flavor in your tomatoes, then Black Mountain Pink is one for you to try. Vines produce plenty fruits that can approach one pound, but most are around 10-14 ounces. Plants have also shown good disease resistance. This is a great variety for sandwiches, cooking, slicing and eating fresh and more. Stake well and your rewards will be bountiful! 82 days! -
Black Sea Man Tomato
Black Sea Man is one of my favorite black tomatoes. Potato leaf vines are not to tall, perhaps 5 feet, and produce plenty of 8-12 ounce fruits. These are early to ripen coming in around 70 days after transplant. Fruits are very rich and sweeter with a nice juicy balance of tang. Nice full tomato flavor! I really love this tomato! It remains on my annual list. perfect for slicing, drying, sandwiches, salsa and delicious black tomato stew. Give it a shot! -
Blue beauty is a chef's dream. It's pretty, tasty, relatively early and prolific. Vines are about 4-5 feet tall with darker leaves and stems. This antho variety gets darker wherever the sun hits it and mostly brownish/purple on the bottom end. I once saw a fruit that was turned upside down and it was totally black on the bottom end. When fully ripened, these are juicy, have a strong and earthy taste, with some sweetness that would work well for sandwiches.They work well other culinary purposes too. I especially like them with a little salt and pepper, right off the vine. Also a great tomato for the farmer's market! -
Blue Ridge Mountain Tomato
Blue Ridge Mountain tomato was a very nice find for us this year. Wonderful tasting, smooth, pink fruits weigh between 12 and 16 ounces. These are full flavored with good old fashioned taste. Potato leafed plants are prolific, grow to about 6 feet tall and demonstrated nice disease resistance for us. These are perfect beefsteaks tomatoes that would also do well in many different settings. On sandwiches they are great! Although I only ate them fresh and had sandwiches with them. I could see this variety being a very good cooking tomato. If you are a tomato addict, you will not regret growing these. Recommended! -
75 Days. Blushing Bride is a yellow and red bi-color slicing tomato that is a pleaser in every way. It has a sweeter and fruity finish with lots of juice. 6 foot tall vines are very productive, hardy and will produce until frost if well cared for. These are guaranteed to turn heads and generate lots of interest. Perfect for sandwiches, eating off the vine, sweet yellow sauce and more. A market vendor's dream! -
Bobbie is a member of the oxheart family, which I totally love. This tomato is all about taste. A pretty little oxheart that I first grew in 2014, Bobby tomatoes grow on wispy vines and begin to ripen about 65 days after transplant. Plants need to be staked early because fines are skinny and produce plenty fruits! as seedlings, they tend to fall over, even with light drizzle or wind. plants have good disease resistance and will produce until frost. Tomato are very good. They are juicy, fleshy, aromatic, have great texture. This is a great all around tomato! -
Boronia Dwarf tomato is a short growing, tree type variety. It produces chocolate colored fruits that remind me of Cherokee Purple in taste. It's texture is different from Cherokee thought, but there are some similarities. Boronia's plants are short, perhaps 3 feet tall when planted in full sunlight, and produce a nice amount of very tasty fruits. In our garden, fruits take about 75 days to ripen and are constantly ripening after that, so don't take your eyes off of them. Our plants have always displayed good resistance to diseases, but they may need a little help. Spray with copper sulfate or Serenade fungicide, those have always worked well for us. This is a variety that is determined to produce and will work hard to provide you with a good dinner of sandwiches, salsa, or sauces. Try them, you'll like them! -
I was gifted Bounty's Best tomato seeds by my friend Shawn @ Bounty Hunter Seeds. This tomato was created and stabilized by Shawn. When I grew them out they were very productive and relatively early. Around 5 feet tall plants produce 4-8 ounce darkened fruits with greenish shoulders and excellent flavor, which I would describe as earthy, with sweets and good balance. Texture was good too. I should mention that plants worked very hard and demonstrated nice disease resistance. Great choice for almost anything tomato. -
Here is a tomato that would work well in hotter conditions. Even my friends out in Texas reported to have better luck with these than many others! Boxcar Willie tomatoes are about 8-12 ounces and very clean. They have a great, old fashioned flavor that could stand up with any slicer! Vines are hard working and produce well all season long. Regular leaf vines are also great with diseases!! It's difficult to fine a better slicer tomato. -
Brad's Black Heart tomato is another one that surprised me in 2017. Wispy, 5-6 foot vins produce a surprising amount darkened colored, blunt oxhearts, that could reach 1 pound. My first taste test with these was very pleasing. I found that they were full flavored, with nice balance of juice, sugars and tang. There was also something else that I am yet to place my finger on. It was all good though! Our plants produced well into fall without any signs of diseases. -
Brandywine Purple tomato, is a one pound tomato that can easily get bigger. Meaty and flavorful beefsteaks are perfect for slicing and sandwiches. But they will make some fantastic, fresh salsa also. Fruits are sweetish, firmer and have excellent balance, with a little fruitiness. I love the aroma of these when fully ripened! Fruits do not have a lot of seeds so grow a few extra plants if you are a seed saver! It will be well worth it! Plants produce a good amount of fruits that take about 85 days to ripen. Good disease resistance, tall vines so stake well. Produces until season's end. A Must Grow! -

True to the oxheart family, this tomato is perfect for almost anything. Vines have wispy leaves and skinny bases so stake well. Bread and sale is meaty, sweeter, dense and mild, but not too much so. The more I think about Brimmer tomato, the more I appreciate good sandwich tomatoes. I'd be honest! I am a huge tomato sandwich eater, but I also enjoy experiencing tomatoes in so many other ways during the season. So when it comes to tomato sandwiches, each year I look for the best that I possibly can. I also revert some other varieties that I loved from previous years. Brimmer will easily make this list. Sandwiches with these were super good and I filled myself to the brim each time. Nice texture, size and old-time tomato flavor. These are sandwich perfect. Try them! -
Another new one for us here in 2017, Brunette was a big hit! This tomato has so much appeal and is good in every way. plants produce large fruits that can reach 1.5 pounds. They begin to ripen about 85 days after transplant. Brunette tomato is all about taste. Rich, juicy, meaty, great texture and aromatic ,are all descriptions that apply. Our plants had no diseases and blew through the season as healthy as can be. They produced until frost! Stake well, plants produce plenty! -
In 2018 we did not grow many gigantic varieties. Of the ones we did grow(about 8 or so), Brutus Magnum was perhaps the most consistently large. Fruits averaged between 1.5 - 2.3 lbs. At times we really struggle with vine upkeep. A few tomatoes became too heavy for their plants and broke themselves off. That was offset by good production, so we still got plenty fruits from just 4 plants. Brutus Magnum is a clean variety. Most tomatoes did not have cracks. Very meaty and evenly balanced taste. This one need early, consistent and proper staking! Great sandwich tomato! 88 Days! -
Each year when I grow dwarf tomatoes, I look for varieties that are good producers of nice sized fruits. Bubble Gum Dwarf tomato is one of them. One of the prettiest pink tomatoes that you would find, Bubble Gum is not a fancy type. It's just a simple, clean pink slicer with great flavor. Indeterminate plants are "tree type" and produce all season long through frost. This is also a great variety for container growing. I suggest 4 gallon or larger containers. Our plants began to ripen their fruits around the 72 days after transplant. 4-8 ounce fruits have very good balance. They are sweeter but not overly so. There is also a slight tinge of acidity. Buckeye State Tomato
Buckeye State tomato is my very first listing for our 2019/2020 season because it's the first variety to come to mind. This tomato, for me, is a memorable one. A beautiful and blemish-free beefsteak, I really appreciate its reliability. In a very difficult growing season, our plants never quit. They blew by any diseases, producing tons and tons of sweet and meaty fruits which reminded me of some of the top beefsteak varieties. These have very good texture, but not too juicy. Perfectly made for sandwiches or cooking. This is a really great choice for market vendors too. Fruits are about 8-14 ounces, plentiful and very desirable. -
Buckeye Yellow Tomato
What a wonderful treat in 2020. Buckeye Yellow tomato was one of the standouts in 2020. 8-14 oz fruits are very delicious and inviting. These, here in zone 5, begin ripening to a beautiful canary yellow with a pink blush after 75 days. This one is a definite keeper. Tall indeterminate plants produce prolifically and throughout the season until frost. Our plants remained healthy and did well without much tending to. This, without a doubt, is an excellent main crop variety, market variety and also awesome multi purpose use. Slice some up for a sandwich or just have one off of the vine. You will love it! -
My description of Buffalo Soldier Tomato would be that it's a very good representation of what a black tomato should taste like. 6-14 ounce fruits grow on 5 foot or taller vines that has shown good disease resistance in our gardens. Clusters of 3-5 begin to ripen about 80 days after transplant and continue until frost. As far as taste, these are sweetish, earthy, juicy with good texture. Its fast is no overwhelming it's just right. I like these especially eaten fresh and on sandwiches. Based on it's exterior feel and good taste, I also suspect that it will be good market variety also, but I didn't take any to my market. Definitely one to consider! -
Bugai Rozovyi Tomato
Bugai Rozovy tomato is the perfect companion for sandwiches. A large pink variety, this dense beefsteak is a balanced and very good tomato! Weighing about 12-20 ounces, it will impress you. We grew ours in full sun and they were very meaty, on the sweet side, smooth and delicious. They also tend to ripen pretty early for larger sized tomatoes. Our vines were about 6-7 feet tall and fruits began to ripen about 80-85 days after transplant. It reminds me of Pink Brandywine but a little denser and a bit sweeter. It's already on our grow list for 2018. We just had to grow them gain! -
Bull's Heart Orange Tomato
80-85 Days. Bull's Heart Orange is a larger, yellow tomato, that every tomato grower should experience. Wispy, skinny vines, grow about 6 feet tall and bear plenty of perfectly heart shaped fruits. Like most oxhearts, this tomato has great taste appeal. It's smooth, milder, sweetish and rich. It's not oto be remembered! When sliced, you will experience the most beautiful yellow that just smells wonderfully! Stake well! -
Burracker's Favorite Tomato
Burracker's Favorite tomato is a large bi-color that can reach 2 pounds. Vines are tall vibrant and strong. They produce a good amount of fruits that begin to ripen around 85 days after transplant. This variety requires good staking! When sliced, all of its true colors come to life, tempting you to take a big bite. Fruits are very sweet with thick meat and plenty juice! Considering that it's such a large tomato, Burracker's Favorite is pretty early to ripen. They are perfect for sandwich making. Make yourself some tomato stew, you'll thank me for it! Also a good candidate for market sales. get ready for a huge treat! -
Butterworth's Potato Leaf Tomato
Butterworth's Potato Leaf tomato produces big yields of 1 pound and bigger tomatoes. Plants are large and hardy. Our plants demonstrated really good disease resistance and seemed to love the hotter days! Fruits have the classic old-style beefsteak flavor, that is well balanced, rich and desirable. This tomato is a sandwich champion, all day every day! Great choice as a main crop because of its huge production, crack /split resistance and fine taste! You cant go wrong with Butterworths's, it's like butter! -
Cancelmo Family Heirloom
Anyone who knows me would tell you that oxhearts are my favorite family of tomatoes. There are very few that I don't like. I have had Cancelmo Family Heirloom tomato seeds in my thoughts for years but I never grew them out until 2019. What I discovered is that these have totally lived up to the good reputation of pink oxhearts. Very flavorful, tasty and mild, these have excellent texture and plenty meat. They are not as large as some of the others, but they are not too small either. Ours averaged 10-14 ounces., some were around 8 and we did have a few that were about 1 pound. Skinny vines are prolific producers and will produce until frost. A very nice canning, sandwich, market tomato. Dont forget to stake well. Try these, you'll love them. -
Captain Lucky Tomato
Captain Lucky tomato is a potato leaf variety. It produces 6-10 ounce, bi-colored, delicious slicers. Plants are robust and grow to about 5 feet tall and have shown good disease resistance for us. Tomatoes grow in clusters of about 5. They begin to ripen about 80 days after transplant. This bi-color beauty is rich, fruity and juicy. The interior of this gem is beautifully marbled with different shades of pinks on green. Perfect for garnishing, slicing, market sales, cooking and fresh eating off the vine. If you are looking for a consistent tomato that will not let you down, then this is the way to go. Also check out its sister tomato. -
Some people say that Carbon tomato is perhaps the best black tomato there is. I say, it's pretty close. Certainly, it's one to be reckoned with! It's not often that I am blown away by the taste of a tomato. Carbon had that effect on me. Before I forget, let me say that some of the best sandwiches that I have had were with these. Carbon is a full flavored tomato that is rich, balanced and excessively good. Our plants were about 5 feet tall in full sunlight. They produced plenty 8-12 ounce fruits that are delightful. A MUST GROW for any garden! -
Carmin Violet Tomato
Carmin Violet tomato is a cutie slicing variety with very good taste. Soft but not mushy, it has a wonderful aroma when fully ripened. I was surprise by its very nice, mild flavor that still delivered completeness. I really enjoyed this tomato but did not try it in any applications. The only way I had it was fresh off of the vine. Very good experience. Six to ten ounce, oblate fruits, grow on hardy 5 feet tall plants. Big production, mid-season ! Expect your first ripened fruits around 75 days from transplant.
